2006 Spirit of Cabrini Award Winners

To honor the Cabrinian spirit of its people, Cabrini Mission Foundation’s Gala will be a tribute to the city of New Orleans both in theme and in the message that amid loss and sorrow, there is strength.

This year’s honorees are former Louisiana Congresswoman and Ambassador to the Vatican Corinne “Lindy” Boggs, and Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York President and Chief Operating Officer Daniel T. McGowan. Both have strong ties to their respective Catholic communities– Mrs. Boggs through her work as U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican and Mr. McGowan through his previous position as Executive Director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Both also embody the Cabrinian sense of service to their communities. As Congresswoman, Mrs. Boggs helped found the Congressional Women’s Caucus which champions issues that affect the lives of women and families and fought for equality in the workplace and in schools. As President and COO of HIP, Mr. McGowan has played a key role in the reorganization of the company and its emergence as one of the nation’s leading health care companies. Mr. McGowan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of HIP’s multifaceted health care activities for its more than one million members. He also serves as Treasurer of the New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and has served as Chairman of the Nassau County Regional Planning Group, the Nassau County Tuberculosis Task Force and the United Way Agency Executives Council.

The Foundation is privileged to honor the work of two individuals who are on the same path of service and leadership.
