Comings and Goings from the Cabrini Mission Foundation

Since the last “New Developments” column, the Cabrini Mission Foundation has been busy reaching out to benefactors and friends to tell everyone about the tremendous efforts of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and their lay and religious colleagues.

Re-Imagining Charity” Gala & Awards Dinner
Over 325 guests attended the Cabrini Mission Foundation’s “Re-Imagining Charity” Gala & Awards on Thursday, May 21, at the famous Cipriani Wall Street honoring Dr. Marvell Scott with the 2009 Spirit of Cabrini Award and Frances Marinaro, Administrator of the St. Cabrini Residence in Philadelphia, who received the Sr. Josephine Tseui Award.

Proceeds from the dinner support the programs and institutions of the Stella Maris Province of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Gala & Awards Dinner was hosted by ABC-7 Eyewitness news anchor, Sade Baderinwa and featured a performance by the Mother Cabrini High School Singers.

Dr Scott is the creator of the Performance Health Program and provides care to patients in concierge medicine, physical performance and sports medicine. He designs longevity and performance programs for a broad active population which includes athletes, adolescents and individuals with chronic medical problems. A longtime member of the broadcast media, Dr. Scott joined the ABC Eyewitness News Channel 7 Sports Department in 2001 and currently anchors sports on the weekends.

The St. Cabrini Residence provides a home atmosphere for MSCs at different levels of retirement. Sisters have come from missions all over the world including France, England, Australia, Central America, as well as from various missions in the United States.

CMF and the Cabrini Retreat Center
On Saturday, May 30, CMF President & CEO, Gene McCormick, and I attended an Open House of the Cabrini Retreat Center in Des Plaines, IL, just outside of Chicago.

The Retreat Center’s Director, Nancy Golen, and her staff did an outstanding job as over 75 guests were in attendance to hear testimonials about the work done at the Retreat Center as well as from the Provincial of the Stella Maris Province, Sr. Pietrina Raccuglia, MSC. Also joining us was Board member Sr. Catherine Garry, MSC, as well as members of the Retreat Center’s Advisory Committee.

The Open House included a reception, tours of the grounds and a celebration of the Eucharist. The Cabrini Retreat Center provides retreats for over 6,000 guests annually. In the Cabrinian tradition, the Center provides special outreach programs to women, youth and immigrants.

Fore! The Cabrini Open Drives to North Hempstead Country Club
On Thursday, September 24, the Cabrini Open will host its annual golf outing at the beautiful North Hempstead Country Club in Long Island. A special thank you must be given to our Golf Committee Chairman, Patrick Dunleavy, and his committee who already diligently working to make sure this year’s edition of the Cabrini Open raises the necessary funds to support the programs and institutions of “healing, teaching, and caring” of the Stella Maris Province.

Besides a round of golf at one of the top country clubs in New York, the day also includes brunch, lunch at the turn, a cocktail reception, dinner, prizes throughout the day on the course (Hole-in-One, Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Straightest Drive to name just a few!) as well as an auction and raffle.

It costs only $425 per player and $1,600 a foursome. Remember, you do not have to be in the New York-Metropolitan to support the Cabrini Open. There are many sponsorship opportunities available. If you would like to join us, please contact Aida Torres at ATorres.Cabrini@gmail.com or at (212) 228-8608.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at North Hempstead Country Club!
