Dr. Scott will begin his journey leaving from New York City on Friday, January 29, 2010, set to arrive in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in the evening. He will then collect medical supplies, which have been purchased through charitable donations, and embark on an 8 to 10 hour trek to the town of Jimani, which borders the Dominican Republic and Haiti. There, he will join other volunteer physicians in rendering medical care at the nearby Good Samaritan Hospital and at the Love a Child Orphanage, located in the town of Fond Perisian, just inside the border of Haiti. I had serious reservations about making the trip due to safety considerations and the time commitment it will require. But ultimately, I view this as an opportunity to help those in desperate need. I anticipate it will be a life changing experience which I feel grateful and blessed to be a part of, said Dr. Scott. Dr. Scott also plans to capture the gripping images of the recovery effort on video with hopes of subsequently producing a documentary upon return. Dr. Scott is the medical director for Performance Health, an integrated medical practice which provides sports medicine, physical performance, and rehabilitation services in Midtown Manhattan. www.DrMarvellPH.com |
