Honoring a New Orleans legend, Ambassador Corinne C. Lindy Boggs, and a man with charm reminiscent of a Southern gentleman, Daniel T. McGowan of HIP Health Care of New York, this years Gala raised over $550,000 to continue to provide grants for the many programs offered by the myriad of Cabrini Institutions. The night was emceed by actor and comedian Joe Piscopo, who also emceed the live auction. Live auction items generated over $20,000 for the Foundation and included premium and priceless items such as a ride on a genuine Mardi Gras float with a threenight stay at the Sheraton New Orleans during Mardi Gras, a weeklong stay at a villa in Tuscany and a baseball clinic for children by New York Yankees player Derek Jeter. Yvonne Hrapmann, Principal of Cabrini High School in New Orleans, received the Sr. Josephine Tsuei Cabrini Mission award for her resiliency and leadership during the Katrina crisis. Sr. Lucille Souza, MSC commended Yvonne for her determination in reuniting the Cabrini High School community by promptly reopening the high school only a few months after the devastating storm while dealing with the challenge of re-establishing a home for her and her family. Sr. Bernadette Anello, MSC recognized the Cabrini Institutions represented that evening and presented Dan McGowan and Ambassador Boggs with the Spirit of Cabrini Awards. In her introduction, Sr. Bernadette thanked Dan and his assistant, Kathy Walsh, for their immense support of the Foundation. From planning to fundraising, Dan has been an integral part of the Gala. Due to her illness, Ambassador Boggs was unable to attend the Gala but thanked everyone personally through a videotaped acceptance speech. Daniel D. Rubino, Esq., Chair of the Foundations Board, introduced William R. Bell, the Foundations new President and Chief Executive Officer. The night was capped with entertainment by a jazz trio from the Juilliard Jazz Studies program headed by director and New Orleans native Victor Goines and students Jonathan Batiste and Etienne Charles, also from New Orleans. |
