Dennis Daw-as: A SOSCFI Success Story

Save our Street Children Foundation, Inc. takes pride in one of its latest success stories. Dennis Daw-as, a former street working child given Educational Assistance by the Foundation, successfully completed his Four Year Course in Education last March 2006 and has since joined us as Facilitator of our Alternative Learning System, a new program that gives the out-of-school youth a chance to obtain a high school diploma.

Dennis is also actively involved in our Street Education Program where he attends to an average of 16 Maranaw/Muslim street working children every week. Every Saturday he finds himself giving tutorials to our clients whom we have enrolled in the formal school system. As he spends time with the children, he fondly recalls the days when he was 9 years old and was being chased by policemen at the City Market. During that time, children’s rights were not yet honored nor implemented in the country. This is why he would not waste the opportunity given him to help in our advocacy on children’s rights. He is very happy to be a part of an organization that promotes children’s rights and welfare, and he credits his success to SOSCFI, its staff and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus who continue to support him.

Other SOSCFI assisted children who recently graduated from college this year are : Jason Habiling, BS Education; Zurig Bayacsan, BS Information Technology; Mirasol Victorio, BS Commerce; Melody Tamsi, BS Midwifery; Angelica Har-op, BS Education; Brace Busaing, BS Education; Jordan Ramos, BS Computer Science; Genevieve Mocyat, BS Tourism and Rudy Jude Dodon, BS Criminology. Like Dennis, these new graduates will be added to the growing list of SOSCFI graduates who have become successful, and who serve as inspiration to the younger beneficiaries of our program.
