A Year and 8,000 Miles

The evening in March was the brainchild of Cabrini Mission Foundation Board member Barbara Costantino’s husband, John. Nearly a year ago, John met Sr. Diane Dalle Molle, Administrator of the Cabrini Ministries in Swaziland. He suggested that she come back to the U.S. soon and tell her story to a generous and sympathetic audience. Barbara and John agreed to supply Sr. Diane’s transportation, but their contribution went far beyond that. They supplied the audience, the venue, and their gracious hospitality.

Sr. Diane traveled nearly 8000 miles for the express purpose of joining us for the evening. The gathering was a pleasant mix of Barbara and John’s friends, Missionary Sisters, along with friends and collaborators, and CMF Board members, made comfortable in the warm and beautiful Costantino home.

Sr. Diane’s moving presentation covered the scope of work undertaken by the St. Philip’s Mission in Swaziland, including health care outreach for HIV/AIDS and TB, Cabrini Hostel for orphaned children, the Education Sponsorship program, the Agricultural Program, and support services including: water, maintenance, buildings and security. Photographs of the children, workers and projects brought to life this important educational program. Questions, answers and informal conversation, followed. In another part of their home, a poignant video depiction of the heroic roles that the Swazi grandmothers (gogos) play when their adult children have been wiped out by HIV/AIDS was played.

At the beginning of the evening, guests were told that they would be informed, be moved, and hopefully, be generous. In all three areas, the Costantino’s, Sr. Diane, and Cabrini Mission Foundation have every reason to be pleased.
